Camp CoBeAc – 2009 Junior Camp
CoBeAc stands for Come, Believe, and Accept. That is our prayer for the campers this week. We’ve got the “come” part completed. Now, let’s pray that they would believe the truths that they are taught from the Bible and accept those truths as part of their lives.

Today we got up around 7:45, for some reason we were really tired today. We did our devotions and ate breakfast and sat around talking for a little bit because we didn’t know what we were supposed to be working on today. We ended up mostly just finishing up our list of things to do. We cleaned everything really good because there was a Father’s Day Banquet in the evening, the guys primed and painted a closet upstairs.
After lunch (we had some delicious hamburgers) Sarah, Mrs. Lindau and I went to the Laundromat again. This was the last chance we were going to have to go and the guys said there laundry was starting to smell.
When we got back (it only took us like an hour and a half this time) everyone had to get a shower. Even though we were just doing laundry we were still sweating. We also had to get ready for the Banquet. It was supposed to start at 7 but everything here runs about and hour late, it’s just the culture.
It was buffet style and everyone brought food to contribute, it was real Puerto Rican food. Probably needless to say, I thought it was disgusting. There was some nasty rice, something with bananas and a whole bunch of meat ground together, for dessert there was sweet rice and some weird coconut stuff. Everyone else thought it was good but it wasn’t for me. There is this man in the church named Charlie and he is very loud and fun. He really like us kids and he always greets us with a hug and a kiss (another Puerto Rican tradition). When he came in this evening he had a present for all the girls, also he had printed up all these pages of stuff to see in Puerto Rico.
After everyone ate we started the service off with a couple of our songs. The girls sang one and then the guys and lastly the quartet. The whole time we were up there Charlie was walking around taking pictures, he came right up in our faces, I was cracking up it was SO funny!!!!! After the service I went up to this lady with a REALLY cute baby, and she let me hold her. Then all the other girls mobbed me and I had to share. We visited for a while and then we had a brief team meeting. Pastor Read said we had to clean the upstairs and then we could go to Wal-Mart. We agreed and went and cleaned.
There had been workers in cleaning the floor earlier and there was this white gunk everywhere, all over the walls, desks, and the floorboards. We scrubbed everything til it was spotless, and it looks pretty good if you ask me.
After we were done cleaning we went to Wal-Mart. We had to get a few things for the church; we picked up shower curtains and thank you cards. Also tomorrow we are going snorkeling so we picked up some equipment. Then we went back to the church and went to bed

Today we woke up REALLY early, but I didn’t mind because we get to go swimming and snorkeling all day. We left around 8:30 and it took an hour to get there. It was SO AWESOME!!! We had to take a boat over to the Island, it was called Gilligan’s Island (and yes everyone has been singing the song all day). The water was crystal blue and there was almost no seaweed (I was happy about that, seaweed is digusting). The water was a perfect temperature and it was a perfect day. Surprisingly no one got burnt, I thought for sure I would but we were so worried we slathered it on like 4 times. I was really thankful because now I won’t have a red face for the service on Sunday. There were two channels going out from the main beach and they formed a big circle. They went from the middle of the island to the ocean on the outside edge. We swam down one of the channels first thing and the current was so strong it felt like we weren’t moving. But on the way back you didn’t even have to swim and it just pulled you along.
Snorkeling was amazing too. There were all these beautiful fish you just had to search really hard to find them. All along the edge of the channels were trees growing in the water, underneath the roots formed a shelf and the fish really like to hide under it.
Yesterday at Wal-Mart we got two water cameras and we used all the pictures. Emily said she and Calah saw a seahorse but I didn’t. My favorite was a really pretty blue fish, the body was light blue and then the tail was a light yellow, it was SO pretty. It was really fun to climb up in the trees to and jump into the water. Me and Sarah did, I went first and jammed my toes into to ground so I told Sarah to pull her feet up.
We left around 4 and we were starving. We had packed a lunch but there wasn’t very much and we got really hungry. On the car ride back I fell asleep so I can’t really tell you about it. Right now it’s about 6:30 and we are waiting for the teens to come over. We are having a teen night tonight, we are going to play games, sing, preach and eat PIZZA. I can’t wait because I am really hungry. The Lindaus are about to leave, we all chipped in and gave them a night at a hotel and they get to go to dinner to. Tonight we are going to have a lot of fun, we invited Bethany over to spend the night and we got a bunch of snacks.
I love and miss you all, hope you all have a good weekend, see you when we get back (hopefully next to everyone there I will look tan!!!).
Love Elizabeth
